Why does a pneumatic elevator cost what it does?

A pneumatic elevator moves its cab with a roof-mounted suction system, as FEMA describes it, so there is no pit and no separate machine room.[3] That saves building work. The tube, the number of floors and the cab size drive the price. Fixr notes most small pneumatic models carry one or two people and have weight limits of 450 to 500 pounds.[1]

What should a pneumatic quote include?

  • Floors served and the tube diameter (one rider or wheelchair size)
  • Floor and ceiling openings, and who finishes them
  • Electrical work and the power supply
  • Local permit fees
  • Warranty length; Fixr suggests at least five years of coverage[1]
  • The first year of service

What this means for you

Plan on $35,000 to $60,000 for a two-storey home and compare every quote on floors, cab size, permits and warranty. A seller's own price list is a useful local reference but not a neutral benchmark.
